Community Outreach

Corporate Citizenship is very important at Southco Distributing. We believe in giving back to our community and offering services to our employees and their families. We do this through various outlets in our community and within our own organization.
Southco Distributing has donated more than $330,000 to the Boy Scouts of America Tuscarora Council over the past 20 years. Also, just this past year Southco Distributing and its employees donated approximately $36,000 to United Way of Wayne County, a 16.5% increase from the previous year. In 2002, Sherwin Herring served as the United Way Campaign Chairman and served on the Board of Directors for several years. In addition, Sherwin was Past President and a member of the Board of Directors at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wayne County. April Garver is currently a board member of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wayne County. Southco has also been a member of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce for several years and has been a corporate sponsor of Wayne County Relay for Life since 2008.
Southco is on its second year of offering Corporate Chaplains of America for our employees who wish to utilize this service. We have a corporate chaplain that meets with our employees once a week at our facility and holds a brief devotion each Wednesday. He also meets with employees on personal time if requested, facilitates funerals, and offers counseling and grief support to our employees if necessary. In conjunction with this service, Sherwin Herring and April Garver are members of C12, a Christian based group that meets once a month with other business leaders within the community and surrounding communities. Ideas from these meetings are brought back into the company and used to improve our workplace environment. Another service we offer to our employees and their children are 2 scholarships Southco sponsors each year to Wayne Community College.
